It's hard to believe that 2025 is half done. Time flew by so fast, I totally forgot to even identify some goals for this year. So I guess I'm going to carryover a few from last year. Here's a look at those:
1) Complete 2 vintage sets. The struggle is real. Chasing down needs at card shows is truly a labor of love because it sure seems like dealers aren't carrying much vintage. However this goal is very attainable as my 1972 set build is over 90% complete and my 1970 set build is over 96% complete.
2) Complete a shiny set. Again, very attainable. I'm very close to completing the 2020 Optic basketball set as well as a few baseball insert sets.
3) Trading. Falling well short here. It's been months since I logged into TCDB and when I do see cards on the blogs or elsewhere, I get too busy and forget to even reach out. Ugh. Which reminds me, I think Bo had a 1952 Wheaties card I saw in a past blog post that I meant to inquire about. Bo we need to talk!
4) Reduce my collection. Last year I wasn't able to reduce my collection to make a noticeable difference. For 2025, however, I'm on my way. I recently sold off about 15k and have another 10k more ready to sell. I'd like to reduce my collection down about 50k cards by years end.
5) New blogging ideas. I'm in the process of revamping my card room and will hopefully have something to share soon.
I feel like these goals have been the same for a couple of years, so I'll definitely look to clarify or create more focused goals for next year. I'll probably need to hit some card sites like COMC and ebay to complete some of these sets, especially the vintage sets. It seems all dealers want to do is sell the new shiny stuff. As for reducing the collection, that seems to be getting tougher too. It's taking longer to get any interest from potential buyers and my prices reflect that. Hopefully that's not a reflection of what the future holds for the card market. Enjoy 2025, only 6 months left!
I'm the first one to comment on your post. Don't give up on your quest quite yet. I don't want to be the one to point this out, but you still have the rest of June to go before the year is half over. I'll have to check out your needs on the 1970 set build. I'm fairly sure I won't have any, but it will be worth checking. Keep going Crocodile!
ReplyDeletethis year is certainly wizzing by
ReplyDeleteKeep plugging away at those goals!
ReplyDeleteI don't intend to trade the Wheaties card but it is a good reminder to check out your want lists, I've been meaning to do that.
ReplyDeleteSlow and steady wins the race!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on selling off 15k cards. At some point I need to sit down and go through some 5,000ct. boxes, pull out keepers, and donate/sell the rest to clear some room. I like your goal of 50k cards... but between sets and team collections, I'd be happy to get things down to twenty 5,000ct. boxes.
ReplyDeleteIt's always fun to see pictures of card rooms. Hope you'll share some after the revamp!
ReplyDeleteI made resolutions, but not sure I will beat them!
