I hope everyone had a great weekend and Halloween. I must live in a 'no kid' zone because the last few years the number of trick-or-treaters has been dwindling. This year we got a whole 7 kids! I literally put the bowl of candy out on the porch so kids could take what they wanted. But the kids around here are pretty honest and only took a few pieces (the kid version of me would have taken the whole bowl). So now I'm stuck with a bowl full of candy. Maybe next year I'll hand out sports cards. At least they are healthier (not edible) and I can have fun going through a bowl of leftover cards/packs.
Speaking of cards, I had a great mail week. It's always nice when an order from ebay or elsewhere shows up in the mail box, but even better when the mail consists of cards from other bloggers or readers.
Jon of
A Penny Sleeve For Your Thoughts fame reached out to me after I had mentioned my interest in a
recent post of the 92/93 Pacific Picks the Pros insert set. I have found these tough to come by in the wild and Jon graciously sent me this card of Michael Irvin. Jon also left a note saying not to be surprised if more cards arrive in my mail box now that he has my address. Well...Jon I now have
your address ...
About the same time David of
CardBoredom fame reached out to me about some spare vintage cards. He sent the four cards above. Totally awesome, as I don't have many cards from these sets.
Yes I know you were wondering when SpongeBob would show up and here he is! But this wasn't just a box of Krabby Patties. Inside was a stack of ...
1970 Topps needs from longtime reader RJ!
Here's a look at some of my favorites from the bunch. There were 40 cards in all. This raised the completion rate from 87% all the way to 93%!! I'll take a Krabby Patties box full of 1970 topps anytime, and I'd even eat some Krabby Patties if any were left. :)
A great big THANK YOU goes out to RJ, David and Jon. Truly generous.
vintage needs are always SWEET
ReplyDeleteNo Krabby Patties? Bummer! At least you got something cool instead.
ReplyDeleteThat Browns logo........I like it.
Who knew Spongebob liked vintage cards so much? Justlook at how excited he is!
ReplyDeleteA box of Crabby Patties in my house lasts about two minutes! I have always been about repurposing any packaging I can. I'm glad you like the cards and hope they will help you in your set build. You will find repurposed boxes of all shapes and sizes when it comes to my card hobby. You can call me cheap or resourceful, but I spend as little as possible on my hobby. Glad I could help.
ReplyDeleteA. I've only had one group of kids knock on my door in ten years... and it was last year (and I didn't have any candy). This year I bought some just in case anyone showed up. Nobody did. Pulled out the Reece's Peanut Butter Cups... and took the rest of the bag to school for my students.
ReplyDeleteB. I bought a Raiders binder at the flea market a few weeks ago and I'm pretty sure there was a Steve Wisniewski Pacific Picks the Pros insert in it. Do you need that card? If so, shoot me an email (I don't always receive email notifications for comments left on blogs). I've already handed out about 10 pages to my students who are Raiders fans... but there's a better than 50% chance it's still in the binder in my classroom.
C. Sweet vintage!
Nice vintage pickups.
ReplyDeleteWe get perhaps two or three dozen trick-or-treaters in my neighborhood. A good portion of the local kids are aging out of the practice, but a healthy number of fairly new grandparents seem to be bringing family from further away to celebrate here. I'm glad to see these cards were a help.
ReplyDeleteWe went through 8 bags of candy this Halloween, which is the norm for as long as I've lived here. Only thing unusual this year was it was 75 degrees and we could hand out candy while sitting on the front porch steps.
ReplyDeleteI gave up giving out candy years ago. No kids came to my house.
ReplyDeleteNow I just eat it
Where I live is much too rural for trick or treaters. I don't mind though, as I prefer not having people come to the door... ever!
