The Card Show

This week has been a whirlwind. My brother is in town so between celebrating our dad’s 92nd birthday and hitting the annual Minnesota Card Show, we stayed pretty busy.  With over 600 tables, it’s the biggest show in the area, and the massive turnout made it clear the card market is thriving. My brother, nephew, and I went on Sunday, the final day, and almost every dealer stayed until the very end.  Even in the closing hours I saw tons of deals being made right as things wrapped up.

Despite what was perceived as over aggressive prices at such a large show, I managed to find some cards for my PC's, such as this 2017 Luis Arraez rookie that is numbered to 499.

I also found a really nice die-cut Ant from 2023 Panini Revolution.

And I fell in love with this Ant 2022-23 Panini Stainless Stars.  The card really is stainless steel.

While I was adding to the PC I bought a pile of Ant's for $20.  I figured why not?

I found this Jordan sticker for about $20.  It's a bit off centered top to bottom, but the prices on all things Jordan is getting ridiculous.

I saw this 2022 Topps Holiday Metallic Ohtani sitting on a table.  It was listed for $200, but I figured that wasn't reasonable.  After speaking with the dealer we agreed to $100, but I still think that was bit high.  It might take a few years for the value to catch up to what I paid but nevertheless, it's a 10 and it is Ohtani.

I also found this auto'd and numbered Derek Jeter.  Yep it's unlicensed but it's a legit Jeter auto and I've never seen these in the wild.  So for less than $200, I gave it a good home.

I did try to look for cards for my 1973 Frankenset project but at these shows dealers bring out their best, not worst cards.

That's all I picked up at the show.  If there's one lesson to be learned, it is that the card market is crazy booming still.  As much as this feels like the late 80's/early 90's again I just don't see an end in sight.

Thanks for stopping by!
