After all my recent vintage card posts I thought I'd switch it up to some modern shiny cards. As much as I want every single vintage card out there, as a collector I can't avoid some of these shiny new cards because let's face it, many of these are just too darn good looking to ignore, especially when some of my favorite players are represented.
I'll start with recent additions to my Arraez PC. This is a rare double 10 given by PSA. I couldn't ignore it and was more than happy to shell out an obscene amount of money for it. Ok, I lied. I don't like spending obscene amounts on non-HOF players, but his career is arcing in that direction (I hope I didn't just jinx him). But don't take my word for it:
Let's compare Arraez' first 6 years in the majors to Rod Carew's first six years (for you Padre fans, comparing Arraez to Gwynn...well there is no comparison. Gwynn would top both Carew and Arraez in his first 6 years). And keep in mind Carew didn't have a shortened Covid year.
So I'll keep collecting Arraez cards as much as possible. This 2023 Topps Inception is not a double 10, but the price was right for this double 9 (unfortunately slabbed cards just don't scan well for me). It is interesting to see how his autograph has changed over the years.
My last Arraez auto to show off is this 2020 Topps Chrome Black on card auto. Sweet.
Staying with the home teams, I picked up this great looking 2020 Panini Gold Anthony Edwards rookie. I had never see one of these before picking this up. The dealer told me he pulled this card from a pack, sent it to PSA and had only had the slabbed card for a week before I spotted it.
At the behest of my brother, these two Kirill rookies were added to my PC. No matter how hard he tries, I am NOT trying to collect the entire rainbow.
Gasp! A soccer card! I'm not into soccer. I don't really follow MLS (though I have been to some Loons games) and I sure as heck couldn't tell you what teams are good or bad in the European leagues, but I have a couple of friends who follow soccer religiously. This guy's name had come up in a few conversations so I decided to check out his cards. It's hard to tell if this is a true rookie card but at $35 I felt the price was good. So now I can brag to my friends that I have a PSA 10 soccer card. :)
Finally this OPC mini from the '87 set is a first for me. I plucked this from a box at my LCS. This set is new to me and being a hockey fanatic, I couldn't walk away from it.
Phew! That was a lot of slabs and I'm sure the environment is thanking for me for all the plastic that's used to preserve these cards. But they sure look good in the card case my daughter bought for me awhile back. Until next time, happy hunting and thanks for reading.
Three of my favorite teams represented above. Nice cards!
ReplyDeleteI'm a big fan of Arraez too. Hoping he eventually has an autograph featuring him with the Padres.
