Shows, Shops and Auctions oh my!

I met my nephew at last weekends card show.  Our interests really couldn't be further apart - he's into the hottest players and shiny premium cards that will grade well.  Me, well I guess I'm old school.  I search out vintage cards and try to complete sets.  He complains about having 'junk' cards of the latest players while carrying around a PSA 10 thousand dollar CJ Stroud rookie.  While I complain how grading has wrecked the hobby.  Nevertheless his perspective is interesting because I view it as a window into what the future of card collecting will be.

Unfortunately for both of us, the show was a bit of a bust.  He was looking to offload some shiny cards (no takers) and I was looking for some vintage for my sets (no luck).  I did manage to score a Shaq rookie beam team (I sent that off for grading - sorry no pic this time).  So we left the show and visited not 1 but 3 card shops.  He finally found a taker for some of his cards while I found this:

Boom!  I never thought I'd actually own this card but the shop owner was willing to deal.  Heck, with this in hand I might even try to build the set.

From some auctions, I landed these Jordan's on the cheap.  Not sure if I'll have these graded.

I also picked up a couple of Kobe's.  You really can't go wrong adding Kobe's to your collection.

I don't own a Trout rookie so this second year card was hard to pass up.

This opening day Ichiro rookie cup was a nice addition.

Of course I had to add yet another Arraez rookie portrait.

Moving on to another favorite, this second year Ant die-cut is awesome.

This 1977 sticker lot set me back $10.  There were 13 in all but I only scanned these.  There were dupes of Randy Jones and Dave Cash, so if anyone needs them - say so in the comments.  First come, first serve!

Finally I grabbed some random cards from my collection to give away.  You know the drill, first come first serve.  Indicate which cards you want - go ahead be greedy!

And football!  Go ahead - be greedy!

As always happy hunting!

  1. A. That's really cool that you and your nephew both collect. Regardless of what kind of stuff he's interested in... he's still a part of our awesome hobby. I tried my hardest to get my nephew to collect cards... but it just didn't hold his interest. I have run into him at shows though. He's usually with his buddies who are into Pokemon (but he doesn't even collect them).

    B. I love collecting Jordan and Kobe. Don't really follow basketball anymore... but I'll always grab cheap cards of those two guys.

  2. Ant Man is fun to watch! Some year the Timberwolves will take the championship. Nice you can share the hobby with your Nephew.
