I've been rummaging through a local shop that is unfortunately about to close. The shop is packed with aisles of cards, memorabilia and other sports stuff. So much so, that I actually never really liked visiting there because there just wasn't much room to move about. The shop is clearing everything out and of course, I like deals. Since the sale has been going on for over a month now, I've ventured in more times then I ever have before and found a few cards to bring home.
One of those finds was the 1981 TCMA Football set. When I first saw this I didn't know what to make of it as I wasn't aware TCMA released a football set. I've mentioned in prior TCMA posts, but I'll say it again, I really like these old time photos (graininess and all).
I'm not much of a fan of this type of head shot. OJ of course, is rather infamous. Ed Marinaro appeared in two Super Bowls with the Vikings. I do remember watching Ed Marinaro on Hills Street Blues. He's been doing signings locally, maybe I'll get this signed.
But I do like the old-time helmets.
This set was released in two different years and apparently by two companies. TCMA released cards 1-77 in 1981 and CMC continued the series 6 years later, releasing cards 78-90. Fortunately my set has them all. There are also several unnumbered variants.
For cards that I largely ignored in my youth, I sure have accumulated a fair number of TCMA sets. I guess you could say that they've grown on me after all these years. Some day I'll have to track down the TCMA basketball and hockey sets.
Until next time, happy hunting.
