Nonsports Nonsense - Let's Get Political (Decision 2016)

I never thought I'd use that as a title for a post but given the cards shown here it seemed appropriate.  And I'm not sure what I was thinking when I bought a box of Decision 2016 at my LCS.  At the time it seemed like a fun distraction from the usual sports offering.

Anyone who remembers the presidential election in 2016 would appreciate the cards in this set as they commemorate the people running for office.

There is a small subset of debate moments to highlight specific occasions.  And of course, being this was nearly 10 years ago, I had already forgotten about some these debates.

And that's not all, you also get a subset of campaign moments.  These cards are included in the high numbers, and according to one web site could be considered inserts.

The finalist subset consists of 14 cards.  You might remember these two.

There are 24 candidates in the base set.  I didn't realize John McAfee considered a run back then.

The section of influencers make up cards numbered 25-50.

There are a dozen 'future stars' included in the set, though I'm not sure either of these two have made any headlines lately.

There are also inserts of candidate spouses and portraits.  And if you're into chasing short print or special inserts like cut signatures, this set has that too.

On the box it says 'politics is the new sports', and I guess that what the makers were thinking when they produced this set.  I find it a little odd, but card sets have been made for movies and just about anything else, so why not politics?

At a recent card show I saw a dealer that was selling a box of Decision 2020, but that price was almost double what I paid for this box.  I won't be collecting that set, and I have no plans to complete this one.
If you're really into politics then you'll enjoy these cards.  I'll stick with things I find more interesting.

  1. Melania wins it.
I've seen card sets of Presidents before. I guess this is similar to that. Getting pretty far into the weeds with 24 candidates though.

  2. I'm with you on sticking to the interesting things. Teams including Lynx, Frost, Twins, Timberwolves for starters. Dirt track racing has started again so my Announcing seasonal work has kicked in.

  3. I got no problems with sets like theses. I may have sampled a back, not a whole box though. Thanks for sharing!
