In this post, I thought I’d showcase a few random additions I picked up during the final months of 2025. Rather than staying disciplined and focusing on my specific set needs—as I probably should have done—I found myself drifting toward whatever caught my eye, both through online auctions and in-person browsing.
The few card shows I managed to attend recently were dominated by 'shiny stuff.' It didn't help that there was a noticeable lack of vintage material at the tables, making it even easier to pivot toward the flashier modern cards. While these weren't on my original shopping list, the eye appeal was too high to pass up. Here is a look at some cards that successfully distracted me from my 2025 goals.
Yep this card was distracting. It has been on my radar for a long time and I finally landed this '67 Mantle. It's got a some marking at the top right but hey, maybe a little Kurt's Card treatment and it will be good as new! Right? :)
I found the Mantle so why not add the team card too? Now if I could just land a Seaver or Carew I'd be on my way with this set.
Did you think I'd forget about this guy? Prices have come down since he didn't win a 4th batting title in a row. That's good for me.
I really didn't need this as I completed the set back in the 90's but I've been looking through that set lately and noticed it could use some upgrades.
The price was right for this '64 Roberts. The design of this set has grown on me.
Emmitt is one of my all-time favorites so picking up his cards are no-brainers in my book. The die-cut 1996 Classic Emmit Smith “Sculpted” Promo Card demanded that I buy it.
You can never go wrong adding the GOAT to your collection.
Another Ant made it's way into my PC. This green Mosaic has good eye appeal.
A Caleb rookie from the 2024 Topps Chrome set. I'm working my way through this set.
I also add this Brock Bowers rookie. The set is pushing 50% complete.
For under $5 bucks this 2023 Panini Elite Extra Edition Primary Colors of Paul Skenes was another no-brainer for the PC.
For $5 I'm not sure if this was a deal or not. What I do know is that I have a few cards from this set and hoping to complete it some day.
Another nice addition to the PC. I really like the looks of this subset, with 3 separate photos and embossing, these cards pop. And since I already had the Steph Curry of course I had to have this.
I think I picked this up at a card show for $2. It's a 2021-22 Metal Universe Auston Matthews. Die cut cards are always a hit with me.
Another Emmit. This one is from the 1998 UD Spx set.
I couldn't turn down the chance to get an on-card auto of former Gopher Logan Cooley.
I bought a couple more rookies of Roki. The santa hat/wreath variation I showed off in my Christmas post but thought I'd put all 3 together just for giggles.
If I'm not mistaken, I think this card was actually cut from a dog food box. I bought this for 50 cents along with...
A Darryl Strawberry cut from a Kraft Macaroni & Cheese box. I found the Ozzie above and this Strawberry hiding in a binder that a dealer had sitting out. Pretty cool stuff.
Ha Ha, I've now seen the cheese diecut on two different blogs today after never seeing it ever before. ... Nice '67 Mantle and '57 Furrillo (my Furrillo is way off center).
ReplyDeleteSome great Ebbets Field signs on the Furillo cards.
