I first discovered Perma-Graphics cards through a blog post a few years ago. Since I have a well-documented weakness for oddball sets, these were right up my alley. That post must have left a mark on my subconscious, because when I spotted a full 1981 Super Star set (32 cards) in an auction recently, I didn't hesitate to pull the trigger.
I read somewhere these were supposed to mimic credit cards, but I don't see it. The cards are very much plastic and about the same size as a credit card but if you want a 'sports card' that mimic's a credit card look no further than 1995 studio.
I do like the front design, however at first I thought the Philadelphia cards said 'Chillies' and not 'Phillies'. 😁 The other thing I thought is that for those who carry them, these would make a perfect wallet card and would never wear out.
The set is loaded with plenty of star power. Unfortunately no players from my hometown Twins made the checklist.
It's nice to see some thought was put into the back of the card, with enough space to add an autograph.
Perma-Graphics made sets from 1981-1983, including some All-Stars sets and gold parallels. If I come across those I may pick them up, however I don't think I'll go crazy trying to chase these down. For now I'll just enjoy the set I have.

This is by far my favorite of the perma-graphics sets. And since they came out long before the '95 Studio set, yes they did seem modeled after credit cards.
