My brother and I decided to get out of town and hit up a show out of state. The show was only about a 90 minute drive and we were looking forward to experiencing something new. This show was surprisingly well attended and the dealer tables were well stocked.
When shows are this busy, sometimes it takes a few walk arounds to see everything, as there always seems to be bodies in the way. One thing that tends to annoy me a bit are those guys that are walking around with backpacks and hard sided cases stuffed full of graded cards. They simply aren't aware (or dont care) of their bulk that is blocking others from seeing a table. I seem to run into them all the time and maybe show organizers need to make the aisles wider. I guess that is a product of the times we live in, with graded cards all the craze.
Back on topic...I picked up a couple of '73s for a song. They're obviously not perfect and the centering is horrid, so they'll fit in nicely with my 1973 franken set. There were a few other gems picked up at the show, however I didn't have time to scan them. I also found a 1987 Fleer tin set, which was in great shape. For some reason I really like the glossy versions Fleer put out in the eighties, and now I have the 1987 and 1988 tin sets, only 1 more to go.
So for me it was a fairly expensive weekend, but successful. My brother however, couldn't find the nice shiny cards he was hoping for. There are more shows on the horizon and I spied some nice needs at my local shop. I hope to have a few more LCS posts soon, until then happy hunting!
Those graded card cases are pretty popular. There were probably five or six guys who came up to my table with them last Saturday.
ReplyDeleteAlmost forgot... sweet Clemente!
DeleteOoh... that's sweet vintage. Nolan Ryan, Clemente, Mays -- I don't think I've seen anything better on the blogs in a few weeks at least. Especially impressed with the Clemente. It's one of the prettiest cards ever.
ReplyDeleteVery impressive pickups, especially the Ryan and Clemente.
ReplyDeleteAwesome Clemente. I have a copy of that, and it is probably my most valuable card.
ReplyDeleteI've mentioned it elsewhere before, but that Killebrew was the first '73 that I ever saw, and owned. I don't think I've ever seen that Eller before, of course, I almost never come across those high numbers, so that's probably why. Great card though!
